Overview
Massive walls with grade IV aid routes and mega classic trad lines are staples of the state. North Carolina’s western mountains boast great large clods like Stone Mointain, looking Glass and lesser but amazing crags in the Linville Gorge. Whitesides in the southeast is a massive cliff with multipitch trad. Super quality bouldering is also a big draw here and many great areas exist.
If you live anywhere on the East Coast you owe it to yourself to visit North Carolina. Forget that the movie Deliverance was filmed there–actually right near Looking Glass rock–it is an amazing state with high walls and the best quality rock you are likely to find anywhere. The slabs at Whitesides and Stone Mountain ar sure to thrill you with the daunting run-outs and the steeps of Linville Gorge are sure to pump you out. No matter what part of the state you climb in you will find high quality adventure climbing.

The cliffs of North Carolina rank amongst the best quality and highest in the east. Many opportunities to climb super long multi-pitch granite lie on Whitsides, Stone Mountain, Looking Glass and other obscure and off-the-radar climbing areas. NC has great bouldering too. Many areas scattered throughought the state have some of the best quality stone in North America and best opportunities for new bouldering potential. Rumbling Bald is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to high quality North Carolina stone.
